Quick answer
If your brand is enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, you can scan a product with the Create 3D models tool in the Amazon Seller app, on an iPhone or other iOS device running iOS 17 or newer. Amazon builds the model from your scan, a 3D artist reviews it, and after approximately three weeks Amazon adds it to your listing automatically, at no cost. In the US, the device language must be set to US English. Not every product appears in the app: eligibility depends on category, physical properties and other factors.
Many guides describe a flow where you edit the 3D model on your phone and publish it to your listing yourself. That isn’t how Amazon describes the tool: you scan, and Amazon builds, reviews and publishes the model. These are the requirements, the steps and what Amazon does and doesn’t confirm for its European stores, taken from Amazon’s own announcements and help pages.
| Requirement | What Amazon says |
|---|---|
| Brand | The tool is for brand-registered sellers, so your brand must be enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry |
| Device | An iOS device with iOS 17 or newer. Amazon doesn’t list specific iPhone models |
| App | The Amazon Seller app for iOS |
| Language | In the US, the device language must be set to US English. Amazon’s European announcements don’t include this condition |
| Product | Eligibility depends on product category, physical properties and other factors, so not every item appears in the app |
| Cost | Free. Amazon’s 2024 guide described this as for a limited time, so check the app |
Amazon’s announcements only mention the iOS app. Neither the US post nor the UK one says anything about Android.
Here it pays to separate what Amazon confirms from what it doesn’t:
So the practical test is the app itself: if Create 3D models appears and lists your products, you can scan them. If it doesn’t, uploading a model made by a 3D studio is the route Amazon confirms for the UK, Germany, Spain, France and Italy.
If you want a model removed from a listing, Amazon’s announcements say you request it by contacting support.
Brand owners can also upload an existing 3D model in Seller Central:
Amazon evaluates every submission against its quality standards, may ask for retouches before publication and says most submissions are reviewed within two weeks. If you don’t have a model, Amazon points you to 3D content studios: its guide ‘Getting Started With 3D Content on Amazon’ lists studios it has vetted, and in the US its Service Provider Network lists providers under Imaging that specialise in 3D Product Modeling. Amazon stopped accepting new 360-degree images on 14 December 2023 and announced that the 360-degree experience on detail pages would be discontinued on 20 January 2025; 3D models replace it.
| Experience | What customers see | Product types |
|---|---|---|
| View in 3D | The product from every angle, with pinch, zoom and rotate | Shoes, eyewear, home and furniture, beauty, baby products, sports, toys, pets, automotive and electronics. Exceptions: televisions, rugs, carpets, wall art and headphones |
| View in your room | The product in their own space, through augmented reality | Products that sit on a floor or table or mount on a wall. Not clothing, shoes, eyewear or ceiling-mounted products |
| Virtual try-on | Eyewear on their own face, from the front and the sides | Sunglasses, eyewear, glasses frames, corrective glasses, costume eyewear, blue light blocking glasses, computer glasses and safety glasses. Amazon’s US page also mentions shoes |
These lists cover 3D models in general. Whether a product can be scanned with the app is decided in the app itself.
A 3D model sits alongside your listing images and video, not in place of them: every product still needs a compliant main image. For the image, video and A+ Content rules, see our guide to Premium A+ Content on Amazon.
Amazon asks for an iOS device with iOS 17 or newer and doesn’t list specific iPhone models. You also need the Amazon Seller app and, in the US, the device language set to US English.
Scanning takes a few minutes. After that, Amazon says it needs approximately three weeks to complete the model, which a 3D artist reviews before Amazon adds it to your listing automatically.
No. Amazon describes the models created by scanning as free, and says there is no cost for adding 3D models and augmented reality to your product listings. Its 2024 guide described this as for a limited time, so check the app.
Yes. Amazon presents the scanning tool as a feature for brand-registered sellers, and uploading 3D models is also for brand owners.
Customers on those stores can see View in 3D, and brand owners there can upload 3D models. Amazon published the scanning announcement on its UK, German, French and Italian seller forums in September 2024, but none of the posts names the stores, so check whether Create 3D models appears in your app.
Amazon doesn’t describe an editing step. You scan the product, a 3D artist reviews the model and Amazon adds it to your listing. To remove it, Amazon’s 2024 announcements say you contact support.
