To sell you need to be a business or sole trader, with a valid VAT number, an EAN on every product, Spanish listings and a packaging EPR number. Fees start at €39.95 a month plus VAT, with 7–16% commission by category. Kaufland, the German retailer, now has a marketplace in Spain. On 6 October 2026 it announced that Kaufland.es is up and running with more than 3,100 sellers, over 10 million items and more than 6,400 categories. If you already sell on Amazon.es, it is one more channel for the same stock, but with its own rules: you handle delivery to the customer, and without a Spanish packaging EPR number your offers will not go live in the affected categories. Here is what Kaufland asks for, what it costs and how to get ready. ## What is Kaufland.es and when did it launch? It is the Spanish version of the Kaufland marketplace. According to the company's press release of 6 October 2026, Spain is its ninth country, alongside Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, France, Italy and the Netherlands (which opened in early September). Kaufland says sellers can reach up to 220 million online shoppers across the nine countries, and that more than 15,000 sellers in Europe already use its marketplace. It is a pure marketplace model: each seller trades under their own name and the customer receives the goods directly from the seller. Kaufland only accepts traders (not private individuals): companies, registered traders and sole traders. At registration it asks for: - **Company details:** ID or passport for the company representatives and, depending on the legal form, a trade licence or commercial register extract. Anyone holding 25% or more of the shares or voting rights must also be identified. - **VAT:** if your business is based in the EU, the VAT number of your headquarters and One Stop Shop (OSS) registration for distance sales within the EU. If you are based outside the EU, a VAT number in each country where you sell. - **An official EAN (GTIN)** for every product. - **Local language:** product listings, customer service and legal texts in Spanish. Kaufland offers free automatic translation. - **A returns address in the EU.** - **An EU responsible person** if you sell CE-marked products made outside the EU. Once registered, Kaufland sets out the steps for each new sales channel: shipping groups (costs, destinations and transit times), offers in euros and in Spanish, legal texts, EPR numbers, a returns address and the warehouses you ship from. If you do not publish them yourself, your offers go live automatically within 24 hours of completing onboarding. ## What is the Spanish packaging EPR number and why do you need it? Spain applies extended producer responsibility (EPR) under Waste Law 7/2022 and Royal Decree 1055/2022 on packaging. Anyone placing a packaged product on the Spanish market for the first time must be registered in the Producer Register of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition (MITECO), packaging section. Kaufland asks for that number in the Seller Portal to activate your offers on Kaufland.es. Kaufland offers its EPR Service in Spain, which records the legally required EPR numbers for you. There are two costs: a monthly fee and a commission on each sale. | Plan | Monthly fee | | --- | --- | | Basic | €39.95 + VAT | | Plus | €59.95 + VAT | Under Kaufland's conditions, it is one fee for all its marketplaces, and both plans include €30 a month of Sponsored Product Ads credit. You can change plan every month: upgrades apply straight away and downgrades after four weeks. You do. Kaufland's registration terms are clear: the seller is responsible for shipping to the end customer. In practice, Kaufland.es works like Amazon FBM: you set shipping groups with a cost and a transit time, and you deliver what you promise. So if your stock sits outside Spain, delivery time and cost weigh more than in your home market, and because delivery charges count towards the commission base, they also make it more expensive. Holding stock in a warehouse in Spain lets you serve Kaufland.es, Amazon.es and your own shop from the same inventory, and take returns inside the EU, as Kaufland requires. ## What steps should you follow to start selling on Kaufland.es? 1. Check that your business has a valid VAT number and, if you are in the EU, OSS registration. 2. Apply for the Spanish packaging EPR number (plus electronics, batteries or others if your category needs them). If you are not a Spanish company, get a NIF and an authorised representative first. 3. Make sure every product has an official EAN. 4. Translate titles, descriptions and attributes into Spanish and adapt your legal texts. 5. Choose a plan (Basic or Plus) and work out your margin with your category's commission, delivery charges included. 6. Set up shipping groups with transit times you can meet, and a returns address in the EU. 7. Arrange customer service in Spanish. 8.
