Quick answer
FBA Returnless Resolutions is now available in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UK. If you enrol, you set a maximum item price of €1 to €75 (£1 to £75 in the UK). On eligible returns the customer is refunded and keeps the item, and you get no inventory reimbursement.
Amazon has brought to five European stores a programme it already ran in the US: instead of paying to get a cheap product back, you can let the customer keep it. It announced the move in its seller forums in late October 2026. On paper, it saves return costs. In practice, it only pays off on some products, and you give the unit away. Here is what Amazon says, what its notice leaves out and how to decide your maximum price.
What is FBA Returnless Resolutions?
It is a setting for Fulfilment by Amazon sellers. When a customer asks to return an item, Amazon evaluates each case individually. If the return meets the eligibility criteria, the customer is automatically refunded and keeps the item. If it does not, the return goes ahead as normal and the customer has to send the product back.
According to trade press, the factors Amazon weighs include the product price, the customer's return history, the category and your account status, which must be in good standing.
| Point | What Amazon says for Europe |
|---|---|
| Stores | Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UK |
| Maximum item price | €1.00 to €75.00 (£1.00 to £75.00 on Amazon.co.uk) |
| Scope | All ASINs, with an optional CSV exclusion list, or only the ASINs you select |
| Inventory reimbursement | None: these returns are not eligible for it |
| Return rate | They count towards it |
| High return rate fee | Not charged on returns resolved this way |
How do you turn it on in Seller Central?
Amazon's notice talks about enrolling, so the decision is yours. The path it gives is Settings → Fulfilment by Amazon → FBA returns evaluation & ownership settings (labels may vary with your account language). You can then track outcomes on FBA Returns, under the Return status column.
You have two ways to apply it:
- Across your whole catalogue, with one maximum price and a CSV of any ASINs you want to exclude.
- On selected ASINs only, which is the cautious way to start.
Which products are excluded?
The European notice does not detail exclusions and links to the programme's help page. The US notice does list them, and rules out dangerous goods (hazmat), recalled products, gift cards, heavy and bulky items, and items with an average sales price above $75.
Do not assume Europe is identical. Check the conditions on your store's help page before you turn it on.
When does it pay to let the customer keep the item?
The customer's refund is the same either way, so you can leave it out of the sums. What you are comparing is this:
- With a return: you get back a unit you may be able to resell, but you carry the costs of handling it (the returns fee if it applies, storage, removal or disposal).
- Without a return: you get nothing back, but you avoid those costs.
A simple rule: it pays off when what you expect to recover is worth less than what it costs to recover it. This example uses made-up figures, purely to show the sum. Swap in your own.
| Made-up example | Product A | Product B |
|---|---|---|
| Unit cost | €3.00 | €20.00 |
| Chance you can resell it | 30% | 70% |
| Value you expect to recover | €0.90 | €14.00 |
| Cost of handling the return | €2.50 | €2.50 |
| Result of getting it back | −€1.60 | +€11.50 |
| Decision | Better without a return | Better with a return |
On these numbers, product A loses €1.60 on every return that comes back, while product B recovers €11.50. That is why it makes sense to set your maximum price below product B's selling price, or to pick ASINs one by one. An expensive product that rarely resells may fit, and a cheap one that nearly always resells may not.
The high return rate fee
Since 1 February 2025, Amazon has charged a returns fee in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UK on products that exceed their category threshold; on clothing and shoes, on every returned unit, with no threshold. If an ASIN sits close to that threshold, or is clothing or shoes, this programme changes the sums: units resolved without a return still count towards your rate, but they do not attract that fee. In other words, it does not lower your rate, it only avoids the charge on those units. Amazon does not say whether, by counting towards the rate, they can affect the charge on other units. Thresholds and amounts change, so check the current ones in your fee schedule.
And do not forget what idle stock costs you. We cover the final quarter of the year in our guide to FBA storage fees in Europe.
What are the risks?
- You lose the unit with no reimbursement. Amazon does not pay you for the product, and you cannot resell what the customer keeps.
- Abuse. This is one of sellers' criticisms. In its US notice, Amazon says it monitors refund requests for signs of fraud; the European notice does not mention this. And you do not decide case by case.
- Less information. Without the product in your hands, you cannot see why it came back. A batch defect can stay hidden for longer.
- Your rate does not improve. These returns still count, so the underlying problem remains.
Checklist before you enrol
- Pull your returns from recent months by ASIN and note how many units could be resold.
- Work out what handling a return costs you at your own current fees.
- Run the sum from the table for your 10 or 20 most-returned ASINs.
- Check which ASINs sit close to the high return rate fee threshold.
- Check the conditions and exclusions on the Seller Central help page.
- Start with selected ASINs and a low maximum price, not your whole catalogue.
- Track outcomes on FBA Returns, and keep an eye on return reasons too.
